What changes at renewal
Renewing is usually simpler than getting your first card, but it is not automatic. West Virginia requires a new physician certification before your registration can be renewed, and you complete the state portion again through your profile with the West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis.
Your renewal visit is a check-in as much as a paperwork step. Dr. Robin Arora, MD will ask how medical cannabis has been working for you, whether your symptoms or diagnosis have changed, and whether you have started any new medications. It is a good time to raise side effects or questions.

What to have ready
- Your current card and its expiration date
- Login details for your OMC patient profile
- A valid West Virginia ID with your current address
- An updated medication list, including anything new since your last visit
- Any new records if your diagnosis, treatment or providers have changed
If you moved, changed your name, or changed caregivers since your last card, update that information with the state as part of your renewal. Caregivers for patients under 18 should confirm that their own registration is current as well.
If your card already expired
Life gets busy, and cards sometimes lapse. If yours has expired, do not purchase from a dispensary on an expired card. Log in to your OMC profile or check the OMC website for the current rules on expired registrations, since the state sets those procedures and they can change. Depending on what the state requires, you may be able to renew or you may need to start again as a new patient.
